NEW DELHI: The International Cricket Council (ICC) is set to tweak the points platform for another cycle of World Test Championship (WTC) which begins using India’s five-Test chain in England in August.
The points system was under the scanner because the inaugural WTC premiered in 2019.
“There’ll be some alterations to the points system within another cycle.
There were five-Test show and there were nations whose interest and resources in Test cricket justified for much more including two-Test series.
The points system has been so that the two-match show was worth exactly the like a five-match series.
It meant everybody was acting for exactly the identical amount of points in complete,” Geoff Allardice, acting CEO of ICC, reacted to TOI’s question during a discussion with select number of supporters on Monday.
The Covid-19 pandemic compelled ICC to modify the points system midway through this cycle.
It transferred into some percentage-per-win system.
The ICC now believes that is a fair way to spend things.
“We can stick together with the proportion of things.
We can set a standardized quantity of factors per Test game.
Soit isn’t important if it’s in a two-Test show or even a five-Test series.
Every team is going to be judged upon the proportion of these points in wins rather than on complete,” Allardice said.
‘Considering certainty to finalise place for T20 WC’Since the June 28 deadline to the Indian cricket board (BCCI) to declare the places to sponsor the T20 World Cup at Oct-Nov pulls closer, the ICC is considering complete certainty concerning the Covid situation.
UAE was retained as a backup venue for your championship.
“Our opinion is to provide the entire occasion in the window accessible.
There is additional layer of sophistication with covid traveling limitations.
What we’re searching for is certainty in which the event will be staged so that we may begin developing game schedule and strategies.
We’re in daily talks with BCCI on schedule and budget,” Allardice said.
