Udupi: Residents in several places in Beejadi near Kotelshwara in Kundapur have said that they see light yellow rain falls on their clothes and other articles on Wednesday.
The carnataka state pollution control board in Udupi has recorded this development.
In 2017, Yellow Rain was witnessed at Amasebail at Kundapur Taluk.
Professor Arun M Isloor, who taught the chemistry at the National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK) in Sailhkal, said that “Unless the sample was examined, we could not conclude the exact cause for yellow rain”.
The professor included various reasons why somewhere could receive “Rain Yellow”.
This can occur because fine dust particles that have accumulated in the air because of heavy construction work.
It can also be because of pollen granules of certain plants.
This can happen if certain plant species run into thousands of hectares.
The concentration of fungus can also be one of the reasons, he said.
Other possibilities can become a chemical industry.
When coal with high sulfur content caught fire, he emits sulfur dioxide and when this fulfills the moisture in the air into the trioxide sulfur which is converted into sulfuric acid.
This is also known as acid rain.
This can be confirmed only after lab analysis, he said.
“Because there are no reports from the public about the complaints of burning skin, I don’t think of acid rain,” he added.
Ganesh Puthran, a businessman and social worker, said that around 1pm on Wednesday, the Bangera Punanga family noticed the yellow droplets of the clothes they had used for drying, and in leaves.
Some other people from this region also reported seeing “Rain Yellow”, he said.
Uday Gaonkar, a science teacher in a government secondary school in Siddapur, said that while scientific research is very important, yellow droplets can be due to mold in the air.
