Yorkshire has appointed Ottis Gibson as their new head coach with the former West Indies, signed a three-year contract, said the County club on Wednesday followed a number of staff with a scandal of racism.
Gibson was appointed after the departure of coach Andrew Gale, a member of the Training Team and Director of Cricket Martyn Moxon last month after the allegations of racist abuse by former Azeem Rafiq players.
The scandal shook sports English, the cost of Yorkshire sponsors and the right to entertain England Internationals while it was also involved in some of the biggest names in British cricket.
Gibson previously worked as head coach for West Indies and South Africa and Bowling coach for England and Bangladesh.
The 52-year-old child will begin next month after his contract with the Pakistani Super League side Multan Sultan ends.
“The credentials of the game and training speak for themselves and he has had a career distinguished at the highest level,” said the new Chairman of Yorkshire Kamlesh Patel in a statement.
“Ottis’ character and commitment to buy into the process we passed in the Yorkshire County Cricket Club shone in our discussion.” He is someone I know will encourage dialogue and help cultivate inclusion culture at the club, as well as a supporter and develop world-class talents that we have here and encourage them to the next level.
“Gibson will report to the former British Bowler Darren Gough who was appointed as temporary executive director.
Yorkshire will also be appointed immediately.
