‘You play with fire’: EU facing the crisis on the verdict of the Polish court

Warsaw: The ruling Poland court challenges the European Union’s law supremacy knocking down the European Union into the existential crisis on Friday, increasing concern among EU policy makers and many poles that can eventually leave the block.
Politicians throughout Europe voiced disappointment in the Polish Constitutional Court on Thursday that the section of the EU law was not compatible with the Polish constitution, underestimating the pillar of the law where 27 European Union countries were established.
Ursula Von Der Leyen, president of the European Commission, said he was “very concerned” and that the EU executive he led would do everything in his strength to ensure the virtue of the UE law.
He said in a statement that 450 million UE residents and their business requires legal certainty, and the Commission will conduct a quick analysis to decide the next step.
Although Warsaw and Brussels were in Loggerhead since the ruling law and justice (PIS) in power in 2015, they are now in a full collision course.
“We must clearly state that the government in Poland played with a fire,” Foreign Minister Luxembourg, Jean Asselborn, said on arrival for the EU minister’s meeting in Luxembourg.
“The superiority of European law is very important for European integration and living together in Europe.
If this principle is damaged, Europe as we know, because it has been built with the Roman agreement, it will stop there.” Officials in Brussels said that the court ruling on Thursday could lead to a series of fines and legal cases against Warsaw which would take months, if not for years, to play.
PIS said it did not have a plan for “Polexit” and – unlike England before the Brexit referendum in 2016 – people’s support for high EU membership in Poland.
Polish block membership since 2004 has helped encourage some of the fastest economic growth in Europe.
With Russia which is increasingly assertive, reminding several middle and eastern European states that for decades under the communist government, many poles see the EU as an important part of national security.
However, welcoming the ruling court, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said that every member country must be treated with respect and the EU should not be “their grouping is equal and more equivalent.” The worries of polished by populist governments in Poland and Hungary are increasingly contrary to the European Commission on issues starting from LGBT rights to judicial independence.
The Constitutional Court took a case after Morawiecki asked whether the European Union institution could stop Poland regulate his justice.
Poland will receive around 770 billion zlotys ($ 193 billion) from blocks in 2028, and critics said the government puts the funds at risk.
Poland’s nominal GDP was 2.3 trillion zlotys in 2020.
The eurobarometer survey conducted in June and July 2021 showed that almost twice as many Poland trusted the EU as the trusters of their own national government.
“I think …
there is a risk that we can get out of the EU, because all these actions that occur can cause step-by-step,” Warsaw Pensioner Grazyna Gulbinowicz said.
“I think it will have a very negative impact on our overall situation, because everything is not easy and without EU funds will be more difficult, not to mention the fact that we will feel isolated.”
