Young architect redesigning Jalan Siddaiah Bengaluru

Bengaluru: Jalan Siddaiiah who is busy and clogged in Wilson Garden is being transformed into a safe, pedestrian friendly road, thanks to the challenges of ‘streets for people’.
The challenge is a smart city mission initiative, the Ministry of Housing and urban affairs, along with local authorities to redesign and reclaim pedestrian streets.
In Bengaluru, the Directorate of Tanah Urban transportation (Dult) identified Jayanagar 10 blocks and Wilson Park for the same thing.
The winner of the challenge – Harshitha Mruthyunjaya, 27 and Adnan Ameer Saqib, 26, both architects – provide a new design with space for pedestrians, cycles, vendors and car parking, regardless of small corners for Connect Community programs.
Dut decided to run the test trial.
They invited winners to collaborate with them in implementing them.
Apart from Harshitha and Adnan, the third about the list of winners, Suneha Hameed, joined them.
There is a consultation with the Association of Resident’s Welfare, Vendors, Traffic Police, among others, about redesigning space.
Last weekend, this program was launched gently.
Zebra crossing is marked, the two-way cycle pathway on one side of the road and pedestrian path on both sides appear, the edge of the curve is marked with cones and barricades and spaces accompanied for vendors and car parking.
Winners also called for the Community Conversion Program, asking residents to join exercises that redesign.
Through social media, the team brings together a group of crochet fans to the Yarnbomb space.
Yarnbombing is a graffiti or street art using knitted or related thread.
“Strangely, many locals come together to learn from them and do their own knitting versions.
What is missing in the city is someone who takes the initiative for such reforms,” said Harshitha, who completed his master in urban design from Australia.
“We are happy that our voices are heard.
With this makeover, we hope to get a back environment,” said Rekha Shankar, educator, and part of the Resident’s welfare association.
After the trial is done and found successfully by tweaking, if necessary, the plan will be submitted to BBMP for implementation.
