Why don’t you need to worry? If you see your cellphone number already registered on WhatsApp, no need to worry.
According to the WhatsApp FAQ page, this only means that the previous account was not deleted and therefore the old information was still in the system.
This does not mean that the owner of the previous telephone number has access to whatsapp accounts that you activate with your new telephone number.
