MADURAI: A 24-year-old young man was beheaded by the gang of six members in Sakkimangalam near Silaiman in Madurai on Sunday night.
District police arrested five people involved in the murder while one of the defendants escaped.
The deceased was identified as a M premumar from Kalmedu, which had previous cases against him.
The victim and the defendant had previous hostilities.
Police sources said that Premkumar recently took a cellphone belonging to one of the accused and provoked him with embarrassing in public.
A few days ago, the defendant went to the premkumar house to get a call and return it after the Premkumar father intervened.
On the day of murder, the Premkumar and the defendant who had been humiliated met near the coast of Lake liquor.
The defendant called his friends to the place and they quarreled because the Premkumar was allegedly refused to apologize and also provoke them.
The six defendants hacked the Premkumar to death and decrote it.
Sahani police registered a murder case and was investigating.
On Monday, the police traced and arrested G Karthik Kannan, 23, M Arsumrumar, 21, M Ramesh, 23, N Samayamuthu, 21 and M Manikandan, 24.
They were returned in judicial custody.
One more accused of escaping and police said the effort put it aside.
