BHUBANESWAR: Rash driving by a youth resulted in a group clash and subsequent murder of a man in Laxmisagar area here in the early hours of Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Kartik Sahoo (30).
This is the second murder in the capital city in the last three days.
Unfazed by police naka points and night patrolling, a group of unruly bikers created ruckus in Laxmisagar area past midnight, much to the chagrin of Sahoo and some of his friends, who had previous enmity with the riders.
There was an altercation between Sahoo and one of the bikers.
Sahoo’s friends alleged that the riders tried to hit him with their bikes on the road.
It led to a violent clash and Sahoo was seriously injured when one of them attacked him with a sword, a police officer said.
Sahoo was first taken to Capital Hospital and later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack when his condition worsened.
Doctors at the SCB declared him dead upon arrival, the police said.
Police have arrested five accused in connection with Sahoo’s murder.
“We have also arrested three of Sahoo’s friends for attacking their rivals, some of whom were injured,” the police officer said.
Police said Sahoo, who was jobless, was earlier involved in some petty crimes in Laxmisagar area.
On June 5, a man had killed a labourer near Master Canteen over previous enmity.
The deceased was identified as Sheikh Abdul (35) of Bhadrak district.
Kharavel Nagar police arrested AbdulSumu Singh the same day.
