Chennai: The number of zones with more than 100 cases of Active Covid-19 has increased from seven to 11 more than a week, official data released by Greater Chennai Corporation on Saturday shows.
As on Saturdays, the active case in Thiruvottiyur (70), Manali (29), Timpanan (82) and Shollingallur (90) were less than 100.
Last Saturday, the Madhavaram zone, Royapuram, Harandur and Perungudi also had less than 100 active cases.
This reflects a steady increase in active cases in the city in the last 10 days, although the daily number of new cases remained stable at 180-200.
The active case on July 31 was 1,627, which increased to 1,910 on August 6, showing data.
For the first time in a few weeks, the active case in the corporate zone touched the 200.
Adyar now has 202 active cases, the highest among all zones.
The second Kodambakkam in 193, followed by Thiru-VI-Ka Nagar with 174 and Teynampet with 173.
Three zones have shown a decrease in active cases in the past week.
This is Manali, Anna Nagar and Valasaravakkam.
However, the decline is the order of only 1-7 cases.
The increase in active cases has been the highest in Kodambakkam (59) and Thiru-VI-Ka Nagar (56) in the past week.
Incidentally, the Kodambakkam zone included T Nagar, the busiest commercial center in the city where the shops were closed at least a week ago.
Corporate officials said they did focused testing in all busy market places and had also conducted testing among staff in government offices.
The swabbing was taken from 4,938 government employees working in 400 different offices throughout the city and tested using RT-PCR tests.
In the past week, 8,763 shop owners and their workers in 62 market places were tested by corporate officials.
The test will continue along with the intensive drive vaccination, said a corporate official.
