New Delhi: The Delhi Zoo opened his gate to the public on Sunday after being closed for almost three months considering the Covid-19 surge in the national capital.
The facility had previously remained closed for more than a year due to pandemic and bird flu and reopened on April 1.
“The zoo is open today.
Rain cannot block the enthusiasm and enthusiasm of the people, especially the young.
We strive our best to make their visits useful,” said the Delhi Zoo Director Ramesh Pandey.
A maximum of 3,000 visitors will be allowed at first, with 1,500 slots available at each shift.
The zoo only says online bookings are permitted, without the physical sales of tickets available at first.
Reservations for online tickets opened 24 hours in advance, however, visitors will also be able to buy tickets online using QR codes installed at the zoo entrance.
While the morning shift will function from 8am to 12 noon, there will be a one hour break until 1 noon, where the zoo will be disanitized and disinfected.
The afternoon shift will start from 1:00 to 5pm, officials said.
Before that, the zoo fought against bird flu for more than three months, with the first positive case detected in January 2021.
After two consecutive samples from negative bird droppings tightened in March, the zoo could focus on the reopening.
Before the last lock, the zoo has added many species of birds and new animals – taking the total number of 83 to 88.
It currently has more than 90 species, with a plan to add dhole, which is an asiatic dog, bear, a lion in return for hippos and two tigress too.
