New Delhi: The popular video conference application Zoom has announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to obtain a Karlsruhe information technology solution – GmbH kite (“kite”).
The kite is a start-up dedicated to developing real-time machine translation solutions.
The company has not revealed transaction terms.
Zoom says that the acquisition will help improve the platform.
This will make it easier to communicate with people who speak different languages.
Also with this acquisition, the company plans to add a translation function to the video conference application.
Kites were established in 2015 and have academic roots with the Karlsruhe Technology Institute.
The kite team consists of 12 research scientists who will help increase the increase in productivity and efficiency by offering multi-language translation capabilities for zoom users.
At present, Zoom offers a real-time transcription feature but is limited to people who speak English.
However, with this latest step, the company plans to add language support to this feature.
Recently, Zoom announced that it would introduce new features that would allow users to add replaces to their profile names.
The aim is to allow users to better express their gender.
Pronoun will be seen by default for users on a free basic zoom package and for accounts with one licensed user.
In profile settings, there is an option to ‘always share’, ‘never shared’, or to ask for every meeting before it is displayed.
