Pune: The public toilet in the interior section of Kondhwa remains dim at night and isolated during the day.
Local woman, who used the facility, had asked police officials to patrol the area after sending the location using their cellphone.
They quote an incident where some young people of local residents followed him to the public toilet.

About three weeks ago, Commissioner Pune Pune Amitabh Gupta urged people to suggest patrol points and why patrols are needed in certain areas.
In the past two weeks, people suggested as many as 300 places where 100 had been received by the police.

Gupta told Tii, “We have floated whatsapp numbers and people are required to visit a place where they need to patrol and have to send their location on WhatsApp Messenger at the given number.
They must provide an explanation to the police in two or three lines why they need Patrolling in place.
“After receiving a location from residents, the crime branch team and local police station visited the place, conducting research and examining the types of crimes that have occurred around it.
During a place visit, police inspection if it was truly safe for women to walk or travel, if there was a street light and if the lumpen element harassed female pedestrians, or other locals.
“If the spot visit by officially proves that it requires patrol as requested, it starts immediately.
This effort will also increase our patrols and presence in various parts of the city,” Gupta said.
It was added to the geographical patrol list.
“This application is based on GPS and maintains a record of police visits.
If no one visits the place, the application blocks it,” he said.
