Gurgaon: More than 1,000 Challans are issued every day for violations of traffic rules after detecting red light violations (RLVD) and the introduction of automatic number plate (ANPR) becomes operational in 26 locations in the city last month.
This, the traffic department official said, was a surge of 10 times than the average 100 challans issued per day before.
Installed by the Metropolitan Gurugram Development Authority (GMDA), this hi-tech camera, places traffic signals in Atop, attached to sensors that can automatically detect violations of rules, capture photos, and send information to the official server.
Data is then accessed by traffic police that issue Challans, which are automatically generated, to the default vehicle owner via text message.
According to the Traffic Department, RLVD cameras were installed in six locations, including Galleria Market, Sector 12 Chowk, Rajesh Pilot Chowk, Wazirabad Traffic intersection, IFFCO Metro Station.
While the automatic number plate recognition camera has been operating in 20 locations – Underpass Chowk Signature, Bristol Chowk, Manesar Bus Stand, Wazirabad Traffic Intersection, Galleria Market, Pilot Rajesh Chowk, Kapashera, Sirhol, and Cyber City, among others – since September.
With this camera monitoring all stretches, intersections or intersections all the time, more than 41 Challans are issued per hour ago, officials said.
“This camera is very helpful in monitoring traffic signal violations and as a result, we have seen a 100 percent increase in Challan.
These cameras will not only help reduce accidents and create more traffic awareness but will also help in examining street crime, Like theft and jambangan, “said the Deputy Traffic Police Gurugram Commissioner (DCP) said Ravar.
Increasing future technology, officials said, would include capabilities such as driver detection without helmets, threefold and driving on the wrong side of the road.
“At present, the Traffic Police Tower in Sushant Lok 1 and the Integrated Control Center and GMDA (ICC) Integrated Control (ICC) in Sector 44 monitor all camera feeds,” Tomar said, added that more cameras would soon operate in other parts of the city.
Traffic police forced RS 5,000 penalty for red light violations and RS 500 because they did not install a high security number plate (HSRP).
HSRPS is an internationally recognized license plate and has features including laser-readable holograms.
