Guwahati: Coronavirus infection in the orphanage here has set alarm bells ringing in the Ministry of Health.
Twelve children in the village of SOS children have tested positive covid on one day.
The health department sent an emergency medical team to filter all campus residents, located near the city airport.
After the third will come, the government is very concerned about infection among children.
“Twelve infected children were detected on Wednesday and sent to the Sarusaja Covid care center,” said a spokesman for home shelter.
He, however, said seven of them used to live in teenage houses outside the campus but under the care of reservoir house authorities.
Boys shifted to teenage houses when they were 10 years old plus.
About 150 children are on campus today.
There were 16 houses in the village and three teenage houses outside the campus.
The children’s village in Borjhar here is one of the largest orphanages in the northeast and remains vulnerable to Covid infection because of the entry of children from various parts of the country.
More than 100 tests were carried out on Thursday but the source said, nothing was found positive.
However, health department officials cannot confirm the health status of infected children.
Since the second wave, a total of 27 children and three staff have contracted a virus in the house shelter.
“Even though Covid Curbs, we need to bring children to take refuge.
Screening is done when they come but somehow the virus has penetrated,” the official said.
Total restrictions have been enforced on campus and no outsiders are allowed to connect with children.
