VADODARA: Vadodara town obtained its initial form of pre-monsoon showers Thursday bringing excellent respite for those citizens in the searing heat.
Black clouds had been hovering in the heavens since morning and it suddenly started pouring at approximately 12.30 pm.
The downpour accompanied by powerful winds brought traffic to a stop in many regions of the city.
Commuters were spotted scurrying for cover, but a lot of kids even hit the streets for a very long drive.
Many also led towards Sindhrot along with Pavagadh Road to relish the rains.
District administration stated that the town obtained 35mm of rain.
The thick downpour, however, maintained the firemen and civic officers on their feet.
“Around 200 trees have been uprooted in various regions of the city because of the storms accompanied by strong winds in just two weeks,” said a fire officer.
A enormous signboard nearby Ratri Bazaar also came down besides a different man at Soma Talav.
However, nobody has been hurt from the incident.
Some automobiles parked beneath the signboard were ruined.
Firemen were busy removing the burned trees and clearing the streets during the day.
A single hour of rain left many streets waterlogged from town.
Aside from Raopura Road, Mandvi and Dandia Bazaar, streets in western areas such as Alkapuri, Akota, Gotri and Subhanpura also were waterlogged for a While.
There were complaints of electricity cuts in certain regions.
Padra taluka also obtained approximately 40 mm of rainfall on Thursday afternoon.
The weather division had called rain on Thursday and Friday.
