WASHINGTON: Two US senators who influenced writing to President Joe Biden on Tuesday urged him to release future sanctions in India to buy the S-400 air defense system from Russia, saying such neglecting will advance US national security interests.
Today US Senator and India Caucus Co-Chairs John Cornyn (R-TX) and Mark Warner (D-VA) sent a letter to the President of Biden who encouraged him to override American opponents through sanctions (Caatsa) to India to buy military weapons from Russia .
“Therefore, we strongly recommend that you provide neglecting Caatsa to India because of its planned purchases of the Triumf S-400 Missile System.
In cases where the provision of neglect will advance US national security interests, this neglect authority, such as Written to the law by Congress, allowing the President to increase the wisdom in applying sanctions, “Senator John Cornyn (Democrat) and Mark Warner (Democrat), which is Co-Cors of India Caucus, said in a letter to the President.
Senators said that when they shared administrative concerns regarding Indian purchases and integration of India on Russian equipment, the transaction between New Delhi and Moscow declined.
The US must continue to strengthen concerns over the purchase to New Delhi, but now it is not the time for sanctions, they are maintained, while suggesting Washington instead of being constructively involved with India “to continue to support their alternatives to buy Russian equipment.” The senators argue that while India has taken significant steps to reduce the purchase of Russian military equipment, he has a long history of the purchase arm of the Soviet Union, and then Russia, suggests taking the time to wean new Delhi from Russian arm.
Some strategic experts argue that by applying American enemies against sanctions which are primarily intended for Russia, the risk of Washington damages the US-Indian partnership which aims against China in the Indo-Pacific region.
India also found himself stuck in the US.
-Turkey spit with several members of parliament who intend to punish Turkey to buy weapons from Russia.
“We are very clear when we write Caatsa law: sanctions are mandated for each entity that does Russian military and intelligence business.
Every new purchase by Turkey must mean new sanctions,” said the Senate foreign relations committee last week in a tweet that did not mention India.
New Delhi also believes that India cannot be included in the same category as the turkey that is given its defense needs.
India formally agreed to buy the Russian Triumf S-400 Air Defense System in 2018 after signing the initial agreement with Russia two years earlier.
The system is expected to be sent later this year.
