Mangaluru: Putture rural police have arrested two accused of extortion and threatening a businessman.
The defendant was Kalandar Sharif alias Shafi, 34, from Golthamejal Village on Bantwal and Hasanabba, aka Hassan aka Achhu aka Achun, 27, from Manjanady in Mangaluru.
The police, after receiving reliable information, took the defendant when they returned after raising money from employers on Friday.
Checked that the defendant had called a businessman from various numbers for about a week, claiming that there was someone who lodged in prison, and that they wanted money to release him.
They demanded the RS 13 Lakh from Him, and asked him to set RS 3.5 Lakh in the next two days, and that if he failed to regulate cash, he and his children would not be spared and their lives would be destroyed.
They also threatened to kill him.
The police have recovered the 50,000 Rs that the defendant had extorted from the victim, and arrested their cellphones.
While Kalandar is a noisy Sheeteter at the Bantwal City Police Station, Hasanabba is a noise at the Konaje Police Station, and is also involved in Dacoity cases registered with Kankanady and the Ullal Police Station.
The case is listed under various parts of the IPC against accused.
