Prasagraj: in the main common size, 291 stations in the North Central Railway (NCR) zone are equipped with free high-speed Wi-Fi internet connectivity, making around 3,229 KMC routes covered with OFC (fiber optic cable).
The work makes this facility available at almost 95% of the station targeted at the NCR has been completed.
Of these, 124 stations were under the Prayagraj division, 105 under the Jhansi Division and 62 under the Division of Agra.
“This project has been taken in mission mode to change the train station into a digital inclusion hub and the responsibility for implementing this extraordinary Indian digital initiative has been entrusted to the Ratna Psu ‘Railtel’ train, said Head of Public Relations Officer (CPRO) from NCR, Dr.
Shivam Sharma.
Railtel has so far assigned this facility in more than 6,000 stations throughout India, he added.
He further informs that Indian Railways (IR) intends to provide Wi-Fi at all (except those who stop) the train station and only Several hundred stations left to reach a sign where the work is taking place.
It is estimated in the 2015 train budget, the project provides free Wi-Fi internet facilities at the station aiming to bring free Wi-Fi access to the train station throughout the country, which also includes stations small located in remote villages too.

Students, especially those who prepare for different competitive exams, can also benefit from facilities in remote locations with limited access to free Wi-Fi facilities.

Feedback from passengers at the main station throughout the NCR, including Prayagraj, Kanpur, Agra Cantt, Mathura, Jhansi, Gwalior etc., has indicated excellent connectivity, smooth data access and great facilities for passengers, officials said.
Wi-Fi Railwire facilities are very user friendly.
To turn on the connection, passengers need to scan the Wi-Fi option and choose Railwire.
After the browser takes the user to the railwire portal, it will request a cellphone number, which is a one-time password (OTP) will be sent.
After connecting, the Wi-Fi connection will last for 30 minutes.
It helps train passengers to stay connected and updated with train information.
“Free Wi-Fi for the first use of 30 minutes every day at a speed of 1 Mbps.
To use further Wi-Fi facilities at a higher speed, users need to choose a higher speed plan by paying a nominal fee.
Plans vary from Rs 10 / day (For 5 GB @ 34 Mbps) to 75/30 days (for 60 GB @ 34 Mbps), not including GST.
A number of payment options such as net banking, wallets, credit cards can be used to buy online packages, “Dr Sharma said.
