Rajkot: Three of the six workers, who were trapped in the chimney at a cement factory in Porbandar after the scaffolding they stood collapsed, giving up on injury.
The workers were first taken to the hospital in Porbandar.
Then, two of which are called Rajkot hospitals and their conditions are said to be stable.
The deceased was identified as Bijendra Munjaram Jatav (24), Sunil Ramdayal (27), both residents of Vijayypur Regency in Madhya Pradesh, and Birsinh Srinivas Jatav (24), a resident of MP Morena District.
Three other workers – Darsinh Rajak (25), Srinivas Rajak (34) and Kaptan Rajak (30) – had suffered an injury.
The incident occurred in the chimney of Saurashtra Cement Limites which marketed cement with the brand name Hathi around 3pm on Thursday.
The fire brigade is informed around 5pm.
Contracts for maintenance work are given to companies based in Mumbai, information sources.
The accident occurred when the workers did painting working inside the chimney standing on a 45-foot high scaffolding.
Workers are trapped in the chimney when scaffolding collapsed.
It took nine hours for fire brigades, coast guards and NDRF teams to save trapped workers.
“Why the structure collapsed is a technical problem so we are waiting for a report of the Deputy Director of Industrial Safety.
Based on the report we will find out whether there is negligence, safety standards are followed or not and based on that we will register violations in one or two days,” Ravi Mohan Saini, Police supervisor, to Tii.
“Entering the chimney is blocked.
We have to cut the chimney wall with a gas cutter to bring trapped workers,” Saini added.
According to the source was the last day of the maintenance and painting work and the accident occurred when workers dismantled the scaffolding.
All six workers are Indigenous Madhya Pradesh.
