Chennai: At least 33 of the 38 districts in the country reported a decline in the new Covid-19 case on Tuesday, when 1,325 new cases and 14 registered deaths.
At present there are 31,368 active cases in the state.
All districts reported fewer than 500 new cases respectively.
Chennai reported 303 cases, followed by 231 in Coimbatore and 113 in Chengalpet.
Twenty-two districts report cases in two digits.
Erode reported 82 new cases, followed by 69 in Tirupur and 56 in Salem.
Five districts – Mayiladuthurai (4), Ramanathapuram (4), Tenkasi (3), Theni (3), and Scratching (1) – cases reported in one digit.
“We have asked the district to do a RPCR test for all symptomatic patients, close and expanded contacts, and continue randomized testing in a crowded area,” said a senior official.
Of about 1.5 lakh test a day at the peak of infection in January, the state is now testing around 80,000 people a day.
On Tuesday, 84,004 people underwent a RPCR test.
Although cases have fallen quickly, people must adhere to the Covid protocol and norms of pandemic.
“The state has provided more relaxation.
But in all workplaces, public spaces, schools and colleges, standard operating procedures must be followed.
Experts said there was still a threat of mutations when the case continued to spread,” he said.
The hospital admission has fallen far away, he said.
There are 2,402 people in the hospital, including 407 of them in the ICU.
Most people in the ICU are not vaccinated, elderly or people with comorbid conditions, said health officials.
14 deaths on Tuesday took cumulative victims to 37,946.
There are two each in Chennai, Trichy and Tiruvarur while eight others – Coimbatore, Chengalpet, Salem, Thanjavur, Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, Pulajottai and Kalakurichi – report one of their respective deaths.
While 13 of the comorbid conditions that have died nine of them are over 60 years old.
Officials said 86,047 people took their vaccination on Tuesday.
It takes the calculation of the cumulative dose of 9.5 crore.
The cumulative number of people who took a booster dose touched 5.2 lakh.
