Old Goa: Pallavi Relave, a PhD scholar from the University of Goa, found five species of moss in the new Goa in India.
With these five new records, Goa now represents 235 species of moss.
Lichen is a very small gray or yellow plant that spreads to the surface of the stone, walls and trees and has no interest.
A study published by the Horizon E-Publishing Group revealed that Porina Exserta, Porina Siamensis, Dissimulants Pyrenula, Pyrenula Pyrenastrospora and Pyrenula Rinodinospora are new additions to the Lichen Goa checklist.
“Porina Exserta, Pyrenaula Pyrenastrospora and Pyrenula Rinodinospora are found on tree skin in Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary.
Previously, Pyrenula Pyrenastrospora and Pyrenula Rinodinospora were known to have come from Papua New Guinea,” Pallavi told Tii, added, “While Porina Exserta is known from Thailand, Christmas Island, Northern, East Queensland, Taiwan and Tahi Known from North and South America, “Pallavi said.
He further said that semi-green forests in Goa showed a maximum diversity of Picrenocarpous species, which were the second dominant species in Goa.
“The occurrence of Pirenocarpous moss shows the presence of many subtle subtle trees in the state.” Pallavi said this study showed the diversity of Pyrenocarpous moss in protected areas in Goa.
Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary represents more Moss Pyrenocarpous.
“Furthermore, along with forest areas in Goa, Coconut, Arecanut Gardens and some cultivation plants also provide habitats that are suitable for the growth of moss,” he said.
Pallavi comes from Maharashtra.
He shifted to Goa in 2013 and initiated his studies in the Lichenological field in 2014 under the guidance of Malapati K Janarthanam, senior professor at the University of Goa.
He has sent seven research papers on Lichens since 2014.
