Ghaziabad: Seven people were arrested on Thursday for allegedly robbing Rs 40 Lakh from a man in Masturi.
The police found the money involved in this case coming from Hawala.
According to the police, the defendant was identified as Nasir, a resident of Meerut; Imraan, Rizwan, from Hapur; Umar, Munnawar, from Ghaziabad while Gulfaam and Taufiq, from Gautam Budh Nagar.
Akash Patel, (ASP) Ghaziabad, told toi that on December 28, 2021, Roop Singh had taken money from the Ambala Money Transfer office located in Chandni Chowk in a taxi to give money to the alleged, Nasir.
Singh did this on the instructions of his senior Kailash.
“Nasir had to provide a record of Rs 10 to Singh to money to confirm the delivery.
Nasir called him in the underpass Dasna and when the victim arrived there, two people on a bicycle came and took him to an isolated place waiting with a weapon.
Singh had to send money to Nasir’s house.
In Meerut but instead he took the first to an isolated place in Ghaziabad, “Patel said.
He added that the defendant robbed Singh after brandishing a gun on his head and escaping.
Singh told Kailash, but he did not file a complaint to the police at the time.
Acting on complaints received on January 5, the police investigation revealed that the money came to India through the Hawala from someone, identified as, Shakeel in Saudi and it was intended to be sent to Naseem, a resident of meerut.
Shakeel is a brother-in-law of Naseem.
“Now we are investigating how and why the money comes to India.
We have also notified the authority of concern as well as Hawala’s money.
We will also call Kailash for further investigation and immediately the police will record the statement,” Patel said.
The defendant was ordered under section 395 (punishment for dacoity) and 412 (dishonestly accepting property stolen in the Dakoitas Commission) IPC.
