Madurai: Bird Walk and Census surveys are held on Sundays in various tanks in Madurai by the District Forest Division with volunteers and students who participated in them.
More than 80 species of birds, especially wetland birds, including winter migration birds identified and census are taken.
Madurai District Forest Officer D Gurusamy said that birds running and census were held at 11 tanks in Madurai, including Tank Samanatham, Nilayur tank, Vandiyur tank, Vadakarai, and Avaniyapuram tanks among others.
“More than 80 bird varieties, including wetland birds, and migrant birds are seen in various tanks.
The census is done for wetland birds.
Apart from that, the team of the forest division of Madurai, ornitology and volunteers involved in watching birds take inside Walk birds, “he added.
The bird runs and the census is done on Sunday morning between 7am and 10 in the morning.
Some species identified include purple swamps, chorber who is billed yellow, Wear Sedied White, Heron Night Disahkotai Black, Bulbul, Bee-Eater, Moorhen, Darter, ibis Glossy, Kingfisher Glossy.
“We see a variety of wetlands and other birds.
As long as the number of birds, we feel that the number of birds is relatively lacking in the area we discussed this year.
It could be because we have good rain.
If there is less rainfall, birds will packerve tanks -Tank main when water is only available there.
But, this time, they are scattered in smaller tanks, “said Dr.
Badri Narayanan, a bird observer and coordinator.
Two students from Lady Day College also participated in the number of birds and covered Samanatham tanks and Vandiyur tanks.
The participants registered the type of bird and count and sent a report to the Madurai Forest Division.
