When most of his colleagues thanked their stars if they managed the road slow in the morning, Desai was busy bagging medals, who was also at a national athletic meeting.
At the time of most other people, especially senior citizens, worried about the third wave of Covid who was possible, Desai not only participated in athletic meetings but also won two medals in it.
Desai, a retired bank employee, finished on the podium in the 100 m event from the Championship Athletics Masters Nationals.
This event was held in Varanasi in November.
Together with gold, Desai also won a silver medal at the Hammer Throw event in the championship.
Desai, who usually lay badminton during his college period, can read without glasses.
He practices every day, is not touched by diseases such as diabetes or blood pressure and wants to continue playing until the last day of his life.
“I began to win a medal at a national and international event when I was 81 years old,” Desai said with a smile.
He has represented India in the Championship Asian Masters in Malaysia in 2010.
He won the National Master event in 2012, 2016 and 2017.
