Tumakuru: The carcass of 25 batons was restored while they were transported in four-wheeled vehicles in the Tumakuru District on Wednesday night.
While a 34-year-old man who was carrying a bat was arrested, the three colleagues managed to escape when their vehicle was stopped by the Department of Forest officials in Hanumanthapura.
Fruit bats have a long muzzle and big eyes and feed mainly to fruits or nectar.
The Range Forest Officer Nataraja L told Kanharaju Toi and the other three transported bats illegally in four-wheeled vehicles from Haveri.
Nylon nets used to capture and kill mammals recover.
Forest officials said the fruit bat was killed for meat and was supplied to Tumakuru and Bengaluru.
The BV Gundappa environment says: “Killing fruit bats for rampant meat in Devarayanadurga forest, Jagannathapura, Sira Taluk and Huliyurdurga from Kunigal Taluk in Tumakuru.” Gundappa said the big net was established among the trees where the bat was found in large quantities.
When the bat flew out looking for fruits, they were trapped in this net.
Those who returned to the tree in the morning also survived.
People collect bats from the net, put it in the bag and sell it.
Usually, bat meat sellers sit in one place in the village and a message is forwarded to the residents of the area that has arrived.
Those who like meat come and buy.
Gundappa said the bat fruit did not endanger people and worked as a pollder; They play an important role in the disbursement of seeds in forest areas and agricultural fields.
He said according to the Law of Wildlife Protection, only Batu Salim Ali’s bat and Whautnok free bats were legally protected bat species in India; Others are considered ‘vermin’, which is the main reason why they are killed for meat with the sentence of impunity and punishment.
Ramanes Forest Representative Deputy said: “I was informed that the fruit bat was killed in the district and sent to non-vegetarian hotels in Tumakuru and other areas.
The department will increase patrols and take action to prevent the incident.”
