Mumbai: More than eight of the 10 Mumbaikars has been exposed to Coronavirus, according to the fifth sero survey results released by BMC on Friday.
The survey, conducted between August 8 and September 9, showed 86.6% from 8,674 surveyed to have antibodies to Covid-19.
A higher percentage (90.3%) among vaccinated, which constitutes 65% of those surveyed.
Among the 35% of participants who were not vaccinated, 79.86% were hit by a virus.
Supplementary City Commissioner Suresh Kakani said, “The prevalence of Sero among people who are vaccinated is much higher than those who do not divert, underline the importance of vaccination.” Dr.
Daksha Shah, Deputy Executive Health Officer, the BMC Public Health Department, said the results could not breed self-satisfaction.
“From experience in Israel and the US, we know Wane’s antibodies,” said Dr.
Shah.
Globally, vaccines have prevented serious infections and fixed ICU, but not given 100% protection against the virus to all.
The Head of the Microbiology of the Sion Hospital, Dr.
Sujata Botheja, who led the fifth survey, said he was an example of ‘breakthrough’ infection.
“Most of the health workers like I was vaccinated, but I tested positive last week.
My light infection might be due to vaccination,” he said.
The BMC press release in the fifth survey has a warning that said the level of IgG antibodies measured which did not necessarily neutralize antibodies that protect the SARS2 virus.
However, the fifth survey for the first time shows the gap in the seroprevalence between slums and non-slums has been bridged.
While 87.02% of those in the slums have antibodies, the appropriate amount is 86.22% in non-slum areas.
In the previous survey, residents of slums with multiple multiplied antibodies were compared to building residents.
Kakani said this showed a high number in buildings was vaccinated.
Acting, Dr.
Seema Bansode, who heads preventive social medicine in Sion Hospital, said that higher vaccination rates in Mumbai have contributed to the level of antibodies of 86.6%.
Gender-wise, 88% of women have antibodies compared to 85% of men.
Dr.
Rahul Pandit, a member of the State Task Force in Covid, said the survey included 9,000 people for a 1-crore-plus population.
“We have to take care carefully.
It represents the trend, but we don’t know what this antibody means and how fast they will rot, ” he said.
Congress Mla Amin Patel said the results of the survey showed less vaccine doubt.” Also on The high density area, the Covid case is lacking and even if positive, the patient does not need hospitalization, “he said.
Kandivali Mla Yogesh Sagar said the sample size was too small to give” the right picture.
“The city is” prepared mentally “to face the third wave, he added .
