Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government has issued a letter to all secretaries and heads of the department, confirming the government’s order increasing the pregnancy leave period for government employees for up to 12 months since nine months.
The letter was removed from the office of the Head of Secretary on Friday, making an official announcement conducted by the Minister of State Finance PTR Palanivel Thiagarajan during the assembly session last month and the next Government Order passed on August 23.
“Pregnant leave for married women.
Government servants with less than two lively children, namely nine months (270 days) today, are upgraded to 12 months with the effect of July 1, with full salary, which can be spread from pre-pre-breaks -Kurungan to restore recovery, in the option of female government servants, “the letter stated.
Government employees who continue to leave pregnant before July 1 and continue to be on leave must also be eligible for maternity leave for a period of time not exceeding 365 days in total.
The female employee who rejects with the assignments between July 1 and August 28 (travel date) after 270 days of delivery can also be given leave for three months, the letter was added.
The announcement was one of the promises of the DMK poll.
This policy will help the state target to increase the number of babies breastfed in the first six months of life.
It will also help mothers return to good health, officials from the Department of Social Welfare.
“Tamil Nadu provides cash benefits, free vaccination and nutritional supplements for mothers and babies.
But some mothers cannot take care of themselves and their babies because they do not have enough time,” said a senior social welfare official.
Longer maternity leave will change this, the official said.
