SRINAGAR: Military authorities suspect infiltration of five to six armed terrorists in the valley are most likely from the URI sector during the night of intervention on Sunday and Monday.
Fresh infiltration offers encouraged the authorities to suspend cellular service and the internet in the area of the Baramulla district in North Kashmir to disrupt communication between terrorists and their bosses opposite the LOC.
The broad search operation was launched for the past 20 hours, said the top army officer on Monday.
General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 15 General D Pandey Corps on Monday told reporters, “While one group is neutralized in Bandipora Regency, we are looking for a second group recently infiltrated.
I can assure you that we are quite alert and will Ensure that minimal infiltration occurs every time an effort is made.
“The army has not issued a formal statement about developments in URI.
This is the second infiltration effort of this area this year.
“We have opened fire on the previous infiltrator group.
The Army with the spirit of pursuing this group about half a dozen armed and optimistic infiltrators that they will soon be neutralized,” said the source.
Officials said even though there was a close watch along the LOC there were 664 incidents of violations of ceasefire and cross-border shootings in J & K by Pakistan until June this year.
This year, 86 terrorists were killed at J & K.
In June and July alone, 36 militants were killed in 16 meetings.
