Bengaluru: Congress on Thursday accused more than three lakh people who died of Covid-19 in the state and accused the state government sacrificing numbers.
Earlier this week, Minister of Health K Sudhakar told the legislative council that the country recorded almost 9.5 lakh death as a whole since January 1, 2020.
He said only 37,423 from them had died of Covid.
“The state government of the state only claimed only 37,603 people died because of Covid-19 in Karnataka for two waves together, but we conducted a door survey to the door and the results showed more than three lakh people had died of Covid-19,” said DK Shivakumar, KPCC President.
He claimed the government had not issued a death certificate that stated the cause as Covid even for those who surrendered to the virus.
Siddarama, opposition leader, who initiated a debate about “the failure of the government in dealing with pandemics”, allegating that the government had not taken into account the deaths of people who died on the way to the hospital and because of oxygen than the lack of oxygen and bed.
He also said that there was a large-scale corruption in the management of pandemic.
The government has bought hand sanitiser by paying Rs 9.6 Crore.
But a report from drug controllers said the quality of this sanitis was bad.
“I urged the government to order an investigation and act against guilty officials,” he said.
There was no compensation for Betapkah, Sudhakar on Thursday admitted in the legislative assembly that the government had not distributed RS 1 Lakh compensation against the BPL family that lost members to produce to Covid-19.
“There has been a delay, but we will disburse it immediately.
The government has set aside Rs 200 Crore for that purpose,” said Sudhakar.
Siddaramaak urged the government to increase compensation to Rs 5 Lakh and also expand the puddle of beneficiaries.
“Give compensation to all families who have lost their loved ones for Covid,” he said.
