Chennai: A 26-year-old man cheated many women using Pseudo’s Facebook profile and money extorting from them had been captured by the cyber city police.
The defendant, Lokesh from Tirumullaivoyal, was dropping out of engineering school and had trapped a woman looking for Confidante on social media since January.
Professionally, he is Youtuber, police said.
“He is friends with women through fake FB profiles with photos of people and different names and asks if they are single.
He will start an intimate conversation and make them divulge the details of their personal life while taking screen catches from all conversations.
Then he will start Extecting them by saying he will share conversations with their parents and relatives, “said an officer from a team that caught him using a cyber tool.
The investigation revealed that he had cheated many women from Coimbatore, Dindigul, Kanyakumari, Puducherry using a false profile and one of the victims was a woman from Malaysia, police said.
Police Cybercrime registered a case after a student filed a complaint that he was threatened by a social media friend who extorted him to ask for jewelry and cash.
Lokesh was turned on in court detention on Saturdays and the police were investigating if Lokesh worked alone or if he was part of a larger gang.
