Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Saturday that international recognition against the Taliban is currently not considered.
His comment came after the Taliban nominated the UN envoy, establishing a dispute in the Afghan seat in the body of the world.
“The question of international recognition of the Taliban at the current point is not on the table,” said Lavrov, adding that Russia, China, Pakistan and the US worked together to ensure that the Taliban kept their promises.
Taliban Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi on Monday nomined a group spokesman based in Doha Suhail Shaheen as an ambassador of Afghan UN.
Ghulam Isaczai, United Nations Ambassador Afghanistan, also requested to renew the UN accreditation.
Russia is a member of the Nine Member UN credentials committee – together with China and the US – which will handle claims that compete in Afghanistan seats this year.
When the last Taliban ruled between 1996 and 2001, the Afghan government ambassador that they found remained a UN representative after the credential committee delayed the decision on rival claims to seats.
