Mumbai: BMC will receive a Covid-19 vaccine worth RS 2.2 Crore from three entities with corporate social responsibility (CSR) to strengthen vaccination in slums, even when the city has recorded the best immunization rate with more than 29.5 doses of lakh given on September.
BMC on Thursday said Mumbai had the best level of vaccination among cities with more than one million populations.
In September, 29.51,157 doses were given in Mumbai, the highest in one month.
As many as 1.2 crore doses have been given in Mumbai, mimming 81.45 lakh people with at least one dose.
More than 41.7 people were fully vaccinated.
On Thursday, Ajanta Pharma and World Trade Center contributed RS 1 Crore each to CM Uddhav Thackeray and Civil Head I S Chahal to facilitate vaccination in slums.
The other Lakh RS 25 was conducted by Dr.
Gautam Bhansali Golden Hour Foundation.
Supplementary City Commissioner Suresh Kakani said the Ajanta Pharma and WTC had been tied with a private hospital, who would get a vaccine and give them BMC.
“We will provide infrastructure and labor while they will provide a dose,” he said.
Dr.
Bhansali said their goal was to add momentum to the level of city vaccination.
“We will target areas where there are doubts also with roping in students and young medical graduates,” he said.
Bombay Hospital will buy a vaccine using CSR funds and hand them to BMC for administration.
Because the funds enter, CSR vaccination can begin in 3-4 days, he said.
In July-August, the city had received an average stock of 10 doses of lakh, which was almost doubled to 19.
25 lakh in September.
