Ahmedabad: Riding High Basically Consumers of Natural Gas Pipes Housing (PNG), Gujarat consumes gas cooking pipes twice as Maharashtra.
This is about four times domestic PNG consumption in Delhi, showing data available with the Ministry of Petroleum and Gas Union.
Gujarat saw around 11.62 lakh cubic standards meters per day (SCMD) – the highest in India-domestic PNG was supplied to individual households during the period October 2020 to March 31.
Like domestic PNG sales reached 5.73 lakh SCMD in Maharashtra and 3 lakh SCMD in Delhi, according to a report by the Petroleum Planning Cell and Analysis of Government Petroleum (PPAC).
More penetration in the City Gas Distribution Network (CGD) and wider coverage of natural gas transportation networks along with the presence of many companies that supply natural gas has made Gujarat state consumption of the largest natural gas in India, the CGD industry players said.
“Unlike Maharashtra or Delhi, the use of PNG by households in Gujarat is not only limited to urban areas and semi-urban areas.
Gas cooking pipes are available in the semi-urban and rural areas Gujarat too.

With a large industrial cluster in Morbi, letters and Bharuch consuming natural gas, Gujarat also consumes the highest Industrial PNG in the country.
About 1 Crore SCMD Industrial PNG was sold in Gujarat during October 20 to March 2021.
Just like this, Maharashtra saw sales of 6 lakh SCMD during the same period.
Of the total 11,803 Industrial PNG connections in India, Gujarat has the highest 5,411 connection.
