Pune: Police Sahakarnagar has arrested a man on charges of receiving online bets in the Indian Premier League (IPL) between Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Mally on Tuesday night.
The suspect was identified as Rahul Subhas Pande (48) from Ghorpade Peth.
The police stormed flat on Dhankawadi and recovered RS52,000 in cash, in addition to winning three cellphones, and a tablet from his ownership.
Cases of cheating and forgery under the provisions of registered gambling actions against them.
A team headed by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone II) Sagar Patil and Senior Police Inspector of Swati Desai from the Sahakarnagar Police Station raided the flat after receiving a tip-off.
Desai said the Pande runs a lottery shop online at Ghorpade Peth and also received bets from many people in the IPL match.
“People make calls to him and he recorded the name and money with their names along with the team’s name on the list.
We have won the register,” he said.
City police in a simultaneous attack on two flats at Rasta Peth and Yard Market, arrested two men with charges of receiving bets in the IPL match on Sunday.
Police said the suspects also received bets in the IPL match during the first half of the ongoing season, which was held in India earlier this year.
The police have restored a large number of slip (receipt betting) from the telephone they grabbed.
Phone numbers and the amount of money written on the slip together with the cricket team.
