Pune: A 39-year-old man sneaked and fell to a 15-foot open channel near the Katraj traffic signal of around 8.45 in the morning on Saturday.
He was saved by the fire brigade personnel in 30 minutes.
A video released by the fire extinguisher showed the person – Vijay Belbahadur immediately tore while being saved.
Fire extinguisher in the video can be seen removing the rope placed around his arm and offering water bottles.
Firefighters Pandurang Tambe said the channel’s closing was stolen and the police had blocked the opening using a barricade.
Kumar Kambu, a pedestrian, saw Belbadur falling into the sewer, and raised an alarm.
Personnel from the Sinhagad sub-fire station rushed to the place and convinced the frightened Belbahadur, partially soaked in wastewater, and used a rope to pull it at 9:15 a.m.
Belbahadur, a Nepalese citizen, lives in Shaninagar in Katraj and works as a cook at a restaurant.
“The witnesses told our rescue team that Belbadur lost balance and fell into the sewer after he issued a barricade because of being curious,” said the Tambe firefight.
Kambu said he was near the Katraj traffic signal when he saw Belbadur falling into the sewer.
“He might have taken a barricade to think that it lay on the side of the road,” Kambun said.
“In Hindi was broken, he could give his name and address but could not explain how he fell into the sewer.
He rode the Autorickshaw told him late to work and leave the place,” added Tambe.
Sister Sister Belbahadur said she had bad vision.
“We have now decided to send him back to Nepal,” said Radha.
Belbahadur is not available for comments because it does not use cellphones.
Senior Inspector Jaganath Kalalasascar said the police had sent a letter to Pune Municipal Corporation to cover the earliest open channel.
