4 Greenfield airports can be ready in 3-4 years in K’Taka

Bengaluru: More than a decade after Greenfield Airport was proposed in Shivamogga, Vijayapura, Hassan and Raichur with the aim of increasing investment opportunities in Tier-II cities, the projects were closer to reality.
After starting Kalaburagi airport and Bidar in the last two years after many delays due to the issue of land acquisition and Aai Clearances, the state is likely to see four Greenfield airports – the term used for new airports – ready to take off and land flight landing in the next three to four years , say government sources.
While almost 45 per CNT from the work of Shivamogga airport is complete, the land acquisition process has been completed for Hassan and Raichur.
At Shivamogga airport, the portion of the runway is complete, and that on the road approach, parking area, internal and peripheral roads, compound walls, passenger terminal buildings, watch towers and CFR buildings are underway.
From the estimated cost of the RS 384 Crore project, the work for RS 125 Crore has been completed.
While the acquisition of land ends for Hassan and Raichur airports, the start of work tends to take a long time.
The contract has been completed for Hassan airport and works to establish a site office.
In Raichur, the DPR has been submitted and the tender process is scheduled to begin soon.
However, Vijayapura Airport has seen a little progress.
According to status reports, only earth work has been completed for most important requirements for building airports.
From the estimated cost of Rs 220 Crore, the only valuable work of RS 49 Crore ended.
Overall, the government spent RS 954 Crore at four airports.
Of these, Shivamogga will be the airport full of landing capacity for Boeing 320 or 737, while three other airports will be equipped to deal with ATR 72 or an equal plane.
