Kabul: Taliban forces killed 13 ethnic Hazara, most of them of the Afghan soldiers who surrendered to the rebels, said the rights group on Tuesday.
The murder took place in Kahor Village in Daykundi Province in downtown Afghanistan on August 30, according to an investigation by Amnesty International.
Eleven victims were members of the Afghan National Security Force and two were civilians, among them a 17-year-old girl.
The killings reportedly lasted about two weeks after the Taliban controlled Afghanistan in a Blitz campaign, peaking in their Kabul takeover.
At that time, Taliban leaders tried to convince Afghans that they had changed from their previous hard government in the country in the late 1990s.
General Secretary Amnesty, Agnes Callamard, refers to the murder in Daykundi, said “this cold-blooded execution further evidence that the Taliban committed the same terrible violations, they were famous for their previous rules.” Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid and Karimi did not respond to calls looking for comments.
The rights group said Sadiqullah Abed, the police chief appointed by the Taliban for Daykundi, denied any murder.
