Coimbatore: Housing landowners intended for acquisitions in Uppilalayapalayam for the City Airport expansion project held protests at Kolectoran here on Wednesday, urging the district government to find suitable land for them, because the amount of compensation is not enough to buy.
Other land and building new homes.
Indicates that there are only 110 houses in the proposed land for acquisitions, housing landowners say they are outnumbered by empty land owners and must obey the majority decisions.
They said that while the district government had approved their requests for alternative land at consultative meetings in 2017, officials have now denied their words.
With the state government giving sanctions of the amount of compensation, housing landowners said they were abandoned in trouble.
S Chandran, the owner of the housing land, said someone who lives at home on four cents will get only around Rs 30 Lakh to Rs 35 Lakh as compensation.
“Given the land price in a radius of 10km uppilayapalayam, the money will be enough just to buy four other cents.
There will be no one left to build a new house.” He said he would cost at least Rs 20 Lakh to build 1,000sqft house.
Other Protester said in 2017 the collector had promised them land in Arasur Village.
He asked the district administration not to return to their promises.
“If we get land, we can use the amount of compensation for building a house.” Chandran said they had explained their difficulties to Sameran’s collector, who had convinced them to bring their problems with the attention of the state government.
“If they pay us a number of compensation, which might occur at any time, there will be no delay in issuing US eviction notifications.
We expect a positive response before that.”
