BHubaneswar: The police coming has decided to appoint at least 1,000 young people from different slums in the state capital as Mitras Police (friends), which in turn will help the police in controlling the crowd and regulating traffic on the occasion of the main celebration in the city .

A broader goal is to make slums free of crime and drug smuggling.
“We recently launched Basti Ku Chala, community police services, in slums to detect and prevent crime.

Anti-social from other places also takes a rental hut in the slums.
Through the community outreach program, we want to prevent young people from indulging in drug abuse and committing crimes, “said Deputy Commissioner of the Uma Police Shankar Dash.
DCP further said the slums have many talented young men, who often don’t get the chance to explore.
He added that the police would extend help to such people.
On Saturday, Police Commissioner Saumendra Priyadar contributed several sports kits to a young man from the slums in Lax Misagar.
“We will soon launch a talent search program in the slums.
Odisha Mining Corporation has been holding hands with us and justifies interest in providing financial support to talented young people for the next six months,” said DCP Dash.
He added that only the young men, who did not have a record of traces of criminal activities, will be involved as Mitras Police.
As part of Basti Ku Chala’s initiative, the police commissioner and his deputy had regular interactions with residents of slums.
Nodal police officers (Basti Mitras) have been asked to patrol bicycles and legs, involved with slums and supervise the movements of suspicious people.
Police personnel have provided a pleasant surprise for many slums by celebrating their birthdays and offering them cakes, candy and bouquets.
