Thiruvananthapuram: On the occasion of the 89th anniversary of the Air Force, a museum to commemorate the event opened in Akkulam’s tourist village here.
The museum is a joint venture between the Department of Tourism and the Air Force South Air Command.
The museum was inaugurated by the Minister of Tourism P a Mohamed Riyas in the presence of Marshal Air Chalanapati, air officials commander of the South Air Command.
The idea of ​​building a museum was conceptualized in the South Air Command in 2018.
The concept was taken by the Ministry of Tourism and agreed upon to implement the project.
The cost of the museum infrastructure was agreed to be borne by the Tourism Department while the exhibition in the museum would be provided by the Air Force.
The work for the museum began in October 2019 and the project was completed in a short time.
The purpose of the aircraft museum is to make it a tourism place that is very attractive to the public inside and outside Kerala and also to motivate the country’s youth to join the Air Force.
This museum has been built in the form of an aircraft which is a symbol of flight that is no longer wrong.
The flight simulator is also installed in the museum that will provide a realistic trial experience to the public.
This project is being implemented in two phases.
The first phase is being implemented with the cost of RS 88 Lakh and the second phase of the cost of Rs 99 Lakh, said the Ministry of Tourism officials.
The Ministry of Tourism expects the aircraft museum and flight simulator to be a crowd puller.
Simulator has been set on the ground floor of the museum.
The entry will be limited to one person at a time in the simulator.
The motivational kiosk that will celebrate the noble achievement of the Air Force awaits visitors upstairs.
Images and information that describes the history of the Air Force will also be displayed in the museum.
This project has been resolved by the Uralungal Labor Cooperative Contract community.
