Mumbai: More than 1,300 trees can be cut down in Mumbai to provide way for various infrastructure development and build projects.
The proposal for axes and transplants 1,346 trees were placed before the Civic tree authority on Tuesday.
Of these, the authorities approved the logging of 269 trees 24 for the Vidhan Bhavan metro station in South Mumbai and as many as 245 for two private projects in Parel Lower.
The rest of the proposal will be discussed at the next tree authority meeting in November.
The proposal to hatch more than 200 trees in one location will be sent to the state government, according to the amendment to Maharashtra (urban) protection and preservation of the Tree Law.
In accordance with amendments, the government will also form the authority of the Maharashtra tree to discuss the projects.
The State Authority will be responsible for tree protection and conservation, including inheritance trees.
Local tree authorities should also ensure that the project is not divided into proposals little by little to keep the number of trees below the specified threshold.
Of the 1343 trees, 770 trees must be accessed, while 576 must be transplanted.
Metro and train projects in city accounts for most trees in the cutting block.
Some proposals have trees intended for rebuilding projects throughout the city.
