Kold: additional court session in Kollam Kerala district on Wednesday gave a double life sentence to Sooraj S Kumar who was found guilty of killing his 25-year-old wife, Uthra using Cobra.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 5.60 lakh on Sooraj.
Announced quantum penalties, the additional session of Judge-VI Manoj M said that inmates had to serve 10 years and 7 years in prison provisions in sequence before the start of the dual life.
While considering the request for prosecution to give the death penalty to Sooraj, the court considers his young age and the absence of a criminal background.
The court also recorded a verdict that the case could not be considered the most rare.
The court holds sooraj guilty of murder, poisoning, the destruction of evidence and also trying to kill for his first experiment when killing Ulthra using Viper.
Special Prosecutor G Mohanraj told the court that Sooraj committed four of the five actions registered by the Supreme Court as a reasonable reason to give a death sentence.
Uthra Vijayasenan and Brother Vishu forces were present in court.
The convicts shifted to the central prison in Thiruvananthapuram.
The incident occurred on May 7, 2020 shook the conscience of the community when the defendant used Cobra to kill his wife.
The prosecution produced 87 witnesses, 288 documents, and 40 proof of material during the trial.
