Thiruvananthapuram: Excise officials under the range of Vamanapuram on Thursday arrested a young temple priest who was allegedly involved in the marijuana sales business.
Officials identified the defendant as Vaisakh, 22, from Puthenmadam, Pirappancode.
A 1.1 kilogram of marijuana deposits seized from his ownership.
The arrest was made by a team led by Inspector of Vamanapuram G Mohankumar.
He said sales and use of marijuana had increased among young people in the Vembayam area, Venjaramoodu and Pothencode.
It was an investigation into the source of other appreciates who were arrested recently that took them to Vaisakh.
The accusation of staying with his octogenarian father’s grandmother and that was from this house, the contraband it was confiscated.
Excise Inspector said Vaishakh was suspected of doing this business for the past six months.
The defendant told the officials that he began to use marijuana at the age of 15 years.
After completing higher secondary education, he began working as a priest in a small temple in Pirappancode.
Because he felt that this job salary was not good enough, he decided to get into marijuana peddling.
