Arindam Ghosh Jhansi: City Girl Shaili Singh, who brought the country to win silver in a long leap at the International U20 Championship was held in Nairobi in August, and his mentor Padma Shri Anju Bobby George was given a program organized by the District Athletics Association program.
Shaili, who misses gold in Nairobi with just one centimeter, comes from Jhansi and has been raised by a single mother.
After winning the championship, it was his first visit to the city.
He was handed over a number of cash awards by various organizations.
Shree Baidyanath Ayurved Bhawan will give him RS two lakh every year until he represents India in an international event.
Former SP Rarding Sabha MP, Chandrapal Singh Yadav and former SP Mla Deepnarayan Singh Yadav each gave RS One Lakh.
During the ceremony at the Deendayal Auditorium packed where everyone waited to see a glimpse of sports stars, Shaili Singh expressed his gratitude to the people of Jhansi and requested their moral support in the future too.
Thanking his parents, mentors, and coaches, Shaili said the next target was the upcoming Asian and Junior World Championship where he was preparing.
Anju Bobby George said that Shaili had reached a height of his perseverance and talent, along with the help of his husband Robert who had trained Shaili for the past three years at their sports academy.
“There are so many talented children here who are ready for us to support when we support Shaili,” George added.
Shaili was also picked by the couple during a national championship like that three years ago.
