Pune: The state electricity distribution company Maharashtra Limited (MSEDCL) has exposed power theft worth around RS 5.64 Crore in Maharashtra Barat for the past three months.
From this, the Pune district only contributed more than Rs 3 Crore.
The power distribution company has now initiated criminal acts of consumers involved in this theft, under section 135 of Indian electricity laws.
MSEDCL recently made a one-day drive specifically to uncover theft such as Sangli, Satara, Solapur, Kolhapur, and Pune in Western Maharashtra, where power theft of 1.28 crore was exposed at 1,418 locations.
“In the last three months, in three drives, we have exposed the theft of power by Rs 5.64 Crore at 4,983 places throughout Maharashtra Barat,” read statements from MSEDCL.
The statement highlighted that on a special drive, the Pune District saw the power theft worth RS 3.41 Crore exposed at 2,535 places – the highest in Maharashtra Barat.
Regional Director Pune Pune Pune Region Ankush Nale has asked the authorities concerned to begin tight action against those involved in the illegal activity.
