Margao: In the absence of DNA testing facilities in the Lone Forensic Science Laboratory in Verna, the state government has caused more than RS 25 Lakh on allegations of transportation and testing for more than 150 samples sent to laboratories outside the state outside the state since April 2012.
This was revealed in a written reply by the Head of the Pramod Sawant Minister for questions not sued by the Curorate Mla Alexio Reginaldo Lourenco.
Forensic Science Laboratory in Verna consists of biology / serology, chemistry, toxicology, narcotics, ballistic, forensic computer and fingerprint division.
However, certain tests, including DNA fingerprints, were not carried out in this laboratory, and therefore, the sample was required to be sent to the DNA Fingerprint and Diagnostic Center (CDFD) and the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL), both located in Hyderabad.
The tests conducted in this laboratory include detection and blood confirmation, cement, saliva and stains, identification of stains species, grouping biological stains, fiber and hair detection, diatomic examination, toxic detection, narcotics drug testing (only char and marijuana), Testing of petroleum and residue products, acid and alkaline analysis, retrieval and analysis of data from cellphones, searches and comparison of fingerprints and mold opportunities, according to the answer.
The source said that the state government had decided to establish a DNA fingerprint division in the Forensic Science Laboratory in Verna, and the procurement of equipment was ongoing.
