Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala records 4,827 side effects after immunization (AEFI) related to Covid-19 to September vaccine, according to the data obtained through RTI.
The numbers equipped with the Directorate of Health Services (DHS) show that the share of poor events in this country is very low (0.01%).
Until September 5, around 2.96 covid vaccine doses were given in the state, where 4.509 minor AEFI, severe AEFI and 247 serious AEFI cases were reported.
DHS data shows that 174 deaths are reported within 30 days after vaccination.
RTI documents add that all deaths that occur after vaccination may not be due to vaccination but may also be a coincidence.
AEFI is an unwanted medical event that follows immunization and may not have to have a causal relationship with a vaccine.
Side effects are classified by small, severe and serious severity and frequencies.
Death comes under a serious AEFI.
Officials said that district level causality assessments were being carried out throughout the state.
The expert committee based on the country will further analyze this data and send it to the center.
At the minor AEFI, Kannur with 1,164 cases reported the highest number, followed by Palakkad (812) and Thrissur (436).
Thrissur with 47 cases reported the highest number of AEFI and 37 seriously.
Idukki and Kasaragod with five cases each recorded the lowest number of serious AEFI until September.
“Kerala has a very neglected percentage of side effects after covid vaccination.
We are investigating each case that has been reported so far in all districts,” said an official.
The low percentage of side effects will increase vaccination campaign, officials said.
“As per our latest estimate, around 1.25 lakh people have to take both doses.
This may not be entirely because of vaccine reluctance, we hope to plug in this gap immediately,” officially added.
