Beijing: Authorities in China canceled hundreds of flights, closed schools and increased mass testing on Thursday to try and spray the new Covid-19 outbreak related to a group of tourists.
Beijing has maintained a zero-covid approach without stopping with strict border closure and targeted locking, even as other countries tentatively trying to relieve limitations.
Most domestic outbreaks have been eliminated, but when China recorded a new fifth consecutive case – mostly in the northern and northwest – authorities imposed Coronavirus control.
This latest outbreak is related to the elderly couple who are in a group of several tourists.
They started in Shanghai before flying to Xi’an, Gansu Province and Mongolia inside.
Dozens of cases since it was associated with their journey, with close contact in at least five provinces and regions, including the capital Beijing.
In response, the regional government has launched mass testing and beautifully closed places and tourist sites, schools and entertainment venues in affected areas, and also imposed targeted locking from housing compounds.
Some areas include Lanzhou – a city of around four million people in Northwestern China – have told residents not to go except need.
Those who need to go must present a negative Covid-19 test.
Airports in affected areas have canceled hundreds of flights, according to data from Variflight Tracker Aviation.
About 60 percent of flights to two major airports in Xi’an and Lanzhou have been canceled.
In a notification published Monday, Erenhot in Mongolia Inner said the trip in and out of the city was banned and residents should not leave their housing compounds.
And on Wednesday, the tabloid owned by the Global State Times warned that new virus cases in Mongolia tended to influence coal imports from Mongolia due to supply chain disorders.
There were 13 new domestic cases reported on Thursday, said the Chinese National Health Commission.
