Health experts in Karnataka keeping careful watch on AY 4.2, sub-lineage of variant Delta.
The report said that 4.2 AY has grown by 10 percent in Britain, and largely responsible for the increase in the number of cases covid in Britain today.
AY 4.2 belongs to the family of B.1.617.2 which lead to a high number of cases during the second wave.
More than 96 percent of the sample reported a 4.2 AY sequenced in the UK and 1 percent in Germany and Denmark, and has been reported even in Israel and Poland.

Dr Vishal Rao, Genomic surveillence Committee Member and Head of the Head and Neck Surgical Oncology and Robotic Surgery at HCG Cancer Center, said: “Delta has several forms ranging from AY1- AY13; one of which is the standard Delta AY 4.
In a variant, there is a 100 per a percent change in the protein spike.
But in v.4, the G142D mutation is present only 26 percent of the order of 1.3 per cent in order AY.12.
However, although the percentage is lower, we can not predict whether it is less aggressive variants.
We are associated with global committees around the world to discuss the 13 sub-types of the Delta; whether they have so far behaved the same; if they are deadly, malignant and fatal.

In the latest genome sequencing done, more than 1,300 samples were analyzed sorted back to the presence of AY 4.2, and so far, no AY 4.2 sub-variants have been found so far.

Dr Rao added: “Now, AY 4.2 is like a grand-daughter of the Delta variants found in the UK.
It is too early for us to celebrate that the number of cases as low covid current data indicate that the virus is mutating.

AY 4.2 already constitute 10 percent of cases in the UK, and therefore in Karnataka, we are careful.

Dr Rao showed that the behavior of the corresponding transmission (where inoculation is key) is more important than covid appropriate behavior.
