Ahmedabad: With Covid-19 cases plummeted sharply throughout the state and remains in two digits over the past few months, the sale of drugs – favipirailavir and remdesivir – used in the treatment of Covid-19 has also fallen dramatically.
Vitamins, cleaners, and sales of immunity amplifiers have also dropped in line with the reduction of Covid cases.
Remdesivir sales throughout the country have declined to 1,680 bottles so far in October by opposing injection sales record of 3.49 lakh in April.
Monthly sales of antivirus drugs skyrocketed above 1 bottle of lakh during March to May, when the second wave of ferocious from the pandemic gripped the country and the entire nation.
Remdesivir sales in October was the lowest after June 2020, showing data prepared by the administration of food control and drug control of Gujarat.
Meanwhile, the sale of Favipiravir oral antivirus drugs has also touched the lowest level since the Pandemic outbreak.
About 408 200mg’s Favipiravir tablets have been sold so far in October such as against a record sales of 34.47 lakh tablets in April this year.
Favipiravir sales at 400mg and 800mg doses have also not steamed 780 tablets and 612 tablets, in October.
In April, sales of 400 mg pills have roamed into 1 tablet crore and 800 mg pills to 14.45 lakh tablets, further FDCA data shows.
“Sales of remediesivir and favipirailavir have dropped to neglected levels, which are in line with sharp reductions in Covid-19 cases throughout the country,” said Dr.
Hg Koshia, Commissioner, FDCA-Gujarat.
Covid drug sales have continued to decline since June 2021, according to FDCA state compilation data.
“With more vaccinations, the case must have come down.
People are now more confident after vaccination and hence, consumption of immunity amplifiers has diminished.
As long as people wear masks in public places, everything might remain under control,” said Dr.
Bharat Gadhvi, President, Ahmedabad Hospitals ‘& Association Homes’ (Ahna).
“Sales of prevention drugs and strengthening of immunity has fully taken the back seat.
While the sale of masks continues, the demand for cleaners also decreases dramatically.
People complacent with the situation and hence, spending on covid related drugs has been reduced dramatically.
